20 Seribu Islands Residents Take Part in Free Diving Training

Seribu Islands Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Sub-agency held free basic diving training on Pramuka Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, Seribu Utara District. The training held on May 6-9, 2025 is participated by 20 local residents.

Seribu Islands Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Sub-agency's Marine and Fishery Section Head, Gama Eka Anantha said this training aims to improve the basic diving capacity of the community, especially in supporting the marine tourism sector.

"20 participants from six urban villages attend the training," he said, Tuesday (5/6).

20 Seribu Islands Youths Trained in Open Water Diving

Participants will receive basic training in the form of an introduction to diving technique theory and continued diving practice in the waters of Pramuka Island. They will get a Basic Diving certification if passimg the competency test at the end of the training.

"Hopefully they can understand the learning well," he added.

According to Gama, local people are used to being at sea, but diving activities require adequate skills and a diving license or permit. This training is expected to improve the ability of competent human resources in the marine and tourism sectors.

"We want residents of the Seribu Islands to become professional divers. So, they can also contribute to preserving the underwater ecosystem. Especially, the ecology of coral reefs that function as the life of coastal and marine biota," he stated.

Meanwhile, one of RT 04/05, Panggang Island Urban Village residents, Adriyansyah (20) admitted excited to participate the training.

"Diving service business is my plan after participating this training. So I can support tourism development on Pramuka Island," he admitted.
